Charlie Dewhirst, Member of Parliament for Bridlington and The Wolds, showed support for the work of the Royal British Legion at an event parliament this week.
The event, hosted in the Speaker’s House within the Houses of Parliament, aimed to introduce newly elected MPs to the work of the Royal British Legion and to build relationships with returning MPs who have served in the Armed Forces.
The guests heard from Gemma Barnes, vice-captain of Team UK who will fly to Canada next month for the Invictus Games. The games, which begins in Vancouver on 8 February, will bring together over 500 competitors from 23 nations.
Charlie Dewhirst MP commented:
“It was a fantastic event. The Royal British Legion continues to be the key provider of support for former service personnel, providing a wide range of services.
Over 10,000 of my constituents live in veteran households, so it’s really important to me to show my support and gratitude to them.”
Mark Atkinson, Director General of the Royal British Legion, said:
“It was great see so many MPs engaging with the work of the Royal British Legion. It is important for MPs and their staff to be aware of the support available to those serving, those who have served, their families and the bereaved.
“The Royal British Legion (RBL) is at the heart of a national network that supports our Armed Forces community through thick and thin – ensuring that their unique contribution is never forgotten.”
